Thank you SO much for this. My hubby and I have honestly begun to feel we’re the only ones who a) haven’t yet had COVID, b) are still working hard not to get COVID and c) really, really don’t want it. Now I’m trying to convince public health to let those of us who had the bivalent booster in the Fall have another one, 6 months later. Nope, they say, not unless you’re high risk or a certain age.

Thank you for not pretending we are past COVID and its consequences. I am particularly worried about people who have experienced multiple bouts with COVID and seem unconcerned about the long term risks. My family is still masking up in public, using RAPID tests for family get togethers, keeping windows open as much as possible and updating our vaccines when available. I worry about other viruses still to come and how difficult it will be to ask people to mask up or vaccinate in the future when our government seems to have given up now.

It's still so hard if one wants to be careful. I'm the only one in my closest family who hasn't caught covid... yet. I wear a KN95 mask indoors everywhere: often see I'm the only one! Sad that I might have to drop out of my tai chi class because no extra filtration/ventilation and now +20 people. Seems like my sanity vs physical health. DH with hydrocephalus got it last June before his 4th vaccine, ended up in ED. Every time I don a mask I tell myself I'm protecting him whilst awaiting surgery, and myself, his primary caretaker. Meanwhile, in Feb/23 our son (35) got pericarditis; was asked if he was vaccinated, but NOT if he was up-to-date! So he doesn't particularly believe it's covid-related, argh. Younger son who lives with us has recently resumed 'normal' activities including concerts & house parties; got sick 2 wks before his dad's surgery; not covid, but still. I feel so angry and helpless sometimes. Glad to read here that I'm not alone.

My family caught covid this time last year, when Nova Scotia dropped all remaining protections. We'd been pretty careful with mask wearing etc, but lulled into a false sense of security by how well (w/ exceptions) our province had handled the pandemic up until then. My spouse now has long covid and new symptoms are still showing up. Stay safe, because we're finding out there is nothing, no joy so small, that covid can't take it from you.
